Frequently asked questions

Questions about kitchen renovation

Christian Vogt
Reviewed by Christian VogtArchitect BA ZFH · Updated October 2026
How much does a kitchen renovation cost?

That depends mainly on the shape and size of the kitchen, the appliances and the materials. New fronts and a worktop cost only a fraction of a new kitchen. Our cost calculator gives a ballpark figure; you find out the exact costs after the advice in the showroom.

How long does a kitchen renovation take?

In our project in Bremgarten, new kitchen fronts were coordinated and installed within one week. For a completely new kitchen, delivery times and preparatory work such as electrics, flooring and painting are added.

Do I have to replace the whole kitchen?

Not always. If the carcasses and layout are fine, new fronts, a new worktop and new appliances are often enough. We look at which route is worthwhile with you.

How can I tell that a kitchen is worn out?

Typical signs are swollen carcasses or worktops, damaged fronts, faulty or power-hungry appliances and a layout that no longer suits your daily life.

Can I have an open-plan kitchen installed?

Often yes. Our architects clarify whether a wall can be removed. Load-bearing walls require a structural assessment, and in a condominium also the approval of the owners' association.

How do I get a quote for my kitchen renovation?

Start the free online enquiry, ideally with photos of your current kitchen. We then advise you in a kitchen showroom and you receive detailed quotes.

Guide

Guide to kitchen planning

In-depth information for your planning. Click on a chapter to open it.

Planning a kitchen: questions to clarify beforehand
  • Use: how often and how many people cook? Do you eat in the kitchen?
  • Shape: single run, L, U or island: what suits the room?
  • Work triangle: arrange the fridge, sink and hob with short distances.
  • Storage: drawers instead of doors, tall units, larder cupboard.
  • Lighting and sockets: plan enough task lighting and sockets above the worktop.
  • Budget: weigh up appliances, worktop and fronts deliberately.
Sequence of a kitchen renovation
  1. Planning and ordering: kitchens have delivery times. Order early and fix dates.
  2. Removal: take out and dispose of the old kitchen.
  3. Installations: adapt water, drainage and electrics, add extra sockets.
  4. Walls and floor: painting and, if desired, a new floor covering.
  5. Fitting: carcasses, worktop, splashback, appliances.
  6. Connection and handover: connect and test the appliances, joint handover.
Renewing the kitchen in a rented or owner-occupied flat

In an owner-occupied flat you can generally renew your kitchen yourself. If walls are opened or shared pipes are affected, coordination with the owners' association is required. Plan noisy work according to the house rules.

In a rented flat you need the landlord's written consent for a renovation.
