Questions about bathroom renovation

How much does a bathroom renovation cost in Switzerland?

With us, a new bathroom usually costs around CHF 25'000 to 40'000. Size, layout, materials and the extent of the refit affect the price. A partial renovation is considerably cheaper. The cost calculator gives a ballpark figure for your bathroom.

How long does a bathroom renovation take?

Depending on the scope, 5 to 20 working days. In our projects, two bathrooms were completely renovated in two to three weeks.

Can I replace the bath with a shower?

Yes. A level-access shower instead of a bath is one of the most common wishes. The fall towards the drain and professional waterproofing are important. We check on site what is structurally possible.

Do I need a permit for a bathroom renovation?

An interior bathroom renovation usually needs no building permit. In an owner-occupied flat, risers usually belong to the owners' association; in a rented flat you need the landlord's written consent.

Can I use the bathroom during the renovation?

The bathroom cannot be used during the renovation. If there is no second bathroom or WC, we plan a temporary solution and keep the construction time as short as possible.

How do I get a quote for my bathroom renovation?

After free advice on site, you receive comparable quotes from certified partners. If you wish, we accompany you to a showroom. Request a quote here.

Guide

Guide to bathroom renovation

In-depth information for your planning. Click on a chapter to open it.

Planning a bathroom: questions to clarify beforehand
  • Style: classic, modern, homely or minimalist?
  • Fittings: functional or luxurious?
  • Elements: shower, bath or both? One or two washbasins? Shower toilet?
  • Storage: where do towels, toiletries and cleaning products go?
  • Lighting: plan general lighting, mirror lighting and mood lighting.
  • Future: should the bathroom also work well in old age?
Remodelling a small bathroom: how to make it look bigger
  • A level-access shower with a glass screen instead of a bath: the floor runs through, the room feels more open.
  • Large-format tiles with few joints make surfaces calmer.
  • Wall-hung fittings and furniture keep the floor clear.
  • A mirror cabinet instead of a mirror creates storage without extra space.
  • Light colours and good lighting make the room look bigger.
Accessible bathroom: what to look out for?
  • Level-access shower without a step, with slip-resistant tiles.
  • Enough room to move in front of the WC, washbasin and shower.
  • Grab rails and a fold-down seat, or wall reinforcements to retrofit them later.
  • WC and washbasin at a comfortable height.
  • A door that opens outwards or is a sliding door.

A well-planned accessible bathroom does not look like a hospital. Our project in Neerach shows that functional and beautiful go together.

Bathroom renovation in an owner-occupied or rented flat

In an owner-occupied flat you are generally allowed to renew your bathroom yourself. However, risers and connections to shared pipes usually belong to the owners' association. Inform the management company early and plan noisy work according to the house rules.

In a rented flat you need the landlord's written consent for a renovation. Clarify beforehand what happens to the changes when you move out.
